In 1973 Baume & Mercier launched the Riviera One of the company's most prosperous timepieces to date. Create with the sportsman in mind the Riviera sported a distinctive gold and steel finish with an unusual 12 sided bezel. To test its sturdiness and accuracy, this watch was mounted on the wheel of a BMW M1 before the start of the Le Mans 24-hours race. It endured high speeds as well as the pressure of fast acceleration. At the end of the race the watch ran with as much precision as it had at the beginning.
